Olivier and Enzo Fayard, the brothers and winemaking duo behind Château Sainte Marguerite, worked closely with their teams on a rigorous analysis of the grapes before deciding on the ideal time to start harvesting.
«The 2025 vintage was a real exercise in precision. With a concentrated harvest window, the harvest demanded responsiveness, rigor and perfect synchronization. Thanks to the expertise of our teams and the benefits of massal selection, we've been able to capture the full richness of the of our terroir. We are delighted with the purity of the fruit and the promise of wines that express both refinement and harmony.»
- Olivier Fayard - Winemaker and general manager of Château Sainte Marguerite
At Château Sainte Marguerite, the 2026 vintage is taking shape as the harvest progresses, carried out plot by plot, guided by careful observation, precision, and the pursuit of optimal ripeness.
The 2026 harvest at Château Sainte Marguerite began on August 17 in the first Grenache vineyards of La Londe-les-Maures and Pierrefeu, in the heart of the Côtes de Provence appellation. The harvest is continuing with the Rolle grapes in these same terroirs and is expected to conclude with the Cinsault grapes around mid-September.
This progression reflects a more extended ripening cycle, which allows the estate’s teams to respect the unique pace of each vineyard and harvest the grapes when they reach their optimal balance.
A particularly rainy winter was followed by a mild spring, before the hot, dry conditions characteristic of Provence took hold in the vineyard. Persistently high nighttime temperatures reduced the usual temperature range between day and night, slowing the final stages of ripening on certain plots and creating varying paces of ripening across the vineyard. Rainy spells during the harvest also forced the teams to pause and then resume picking as conditions dictated.
These variations required careful observation and precise coordination throughout the vineyard.
Rather than imposing a single pace on the growing season, Château Sainte Marguerite has chosen to follow its natural rhythm. Careful selection of the plots and regular monitoring have made it possible to focus the harvest on the grapes that are ready, while giving the others the time they need. The guiding principle for the 2026 harvest is therefore very clear: not to harvest quickly, but to harvest at the right time—the optimal moment for each grape variety and each terroir.
The grape harvest is a collective endeavor. From the vineyard to the winery, the teams work closely together to adapt to changing conditions and preserve the integrity of the fruit at every stage. This continuity is essential as the focus gradually shifts from pressing to winemaking.
As the harvest progresses on the estate, the first grapes are showing encouraging signs. Despite the summer heat, the grapes have retained their freshness, while the first Grenache plots reveal vibrant fruit and a beautiful balance.
While it is still too early to fully define the profile of the 2026 vintage, the harvest is already opening a new chapter for the Fayard family. In the coming weeks, tastings and blending trials will reveal how the different terroirs and grape varieties have expressed themselves. These will guide the creation of wines that embody the precision, elegance, and finesse that characterize the Côtes de Provence terroirs of Château Sainte Marguerite.
